World Premieres Hirs/Tawfique

This concert is the world premiere of the second part, parallel sea [to the lighthouse], of Rozalie Hirs’s parallel world and sea (2017-18), which will be played together with the first part, parallel world [breathing]. Then, Sabien Canton plays the world premiere of Hawar Tawfique’s Dare to Fly (2018) for harp and percussion. Both of these pieces have been made possible by the support of the Fonds Podiumkunsten. Conductor: Etienne Sieben

De Notenkraker

Pyotr Tschaikovsky wrote his famous Nutcracker in 1892. Now, Sabien Canton, author of the Harpologie series, arranged it for the harp, and the premiere will be at the Dutch Harp Festival! Thirty amateur harp players from all ages and corners of the Netherlands will be joined on stage by conductor Marcel Geraeds and storyteller Alain Clark. This is going to be something special!

Artistic director Remy van Kesteren creates his own world with his compositions: a blend of neo-classical minimal, electronic music, and jazz and world influences, where the boundaries between genres evaporate.

Edmar Castañeda

Colombian-born harp virtuoso Edmar Castañeda has forged his own distinctive path in music. He brings not only an unfamiliar instrument but a wholly original voice to jazz, branching out into a world of different styles and genres. His wide-ranging career has been remarkable for discovering a brilliant role for the harp in jazz, then continuing to innovate and spark creativity from a wealth of formidable collaborations. We’re very glad we can welcome Edmar at Planet Harp for the second time.
