Workshop

In collaboration with the International Gaudeamus Music Week, the Dutch Harp Festival organizes a workshop on 6 September 2011 in Utrecht, to familiarize composers with the harp and teach them about its wide range of possibilities. The workshop is open to contestants as well as composers who do not wish to enter the competition.

This workshop will be held in the Utrecht Conservatory and consists of two parts:

14.30 — An introduction to the harp
Experienced harp composer Roel van Oosten and harpist Miriam Overlach will present an open lecture/recital to explain the many possibilities of the harp.

16.00 — A workshop
This part is only open for composers. Composers will be split in groups and will get information in further depth from harpists, with the chance to ask questions and try their ideas out on the instrument.

To get acquainted with the instrument, composers are expected to have studied the following materials in advance:

  • C. Salzedo — Method for the Harp
  • L. Berio — Sequenza II
  • M. Ravel — Introduction et Allegro
